The Kushboo Affair - Round II
After the events of the first round in the Kushboo Affair, it was left to Suhasini to rake up the issue and bring it to the forefront of South Indian news.
Well, this set the stage for Round 2 and then DPI, PMK and other "progressive" outfits, representing the "hurt" womenfolk of Tamilnadu once again joined forces to target Suhasini. Her effigy was also burnt by "good and just" people clamouring for action against Kushboo and Suhasini.
And again, as before, the person concerned apologised.
Although other prominent people like Sania Mirza and Narain Karthikeyan and organisations such as AIDWA have spoken up in support of Kushboo, one is shocked at the narrow-minded attitude and hypocrisy displayed by those who have condemned the remarks made by Kushboo.
What is wrong if a woman dares to state that pre-marital sex is fine for women, as long as they take adequate steps against HIV/AIDS etc ? Would there be such a hue and cry if a similar statement had been made about men ? I think not.
But then, gender equality has always been joke, hasnt it ? Its ironic that those who invoke the names of "Periyar" E.V.Ramaswamy and Subramania Bharathi have paid scant attention to the thoughts and philosophies, especially in terms of equality for women, of these two gentlemen.

Why do we keep calling ourselves the largest democracy in this world if one cannot express an opinion? If we have to live by the standards set by these 'moral police', why not equate ourselves to 'Taliban'? We want to pride ourselves in democracy and freedom - without knowing what it means!
Kazhuthaiku theriyuma karpoora vasanai?
Ganesh, totally agree with you.
It wouldnt have been so bad if the people who had contra-opinions had expressed it in a civil manner. Its the filing of cases, throwing of rotten tomatoes etc, burning of effigies which has left a bad taste in the mouth.
Kushboo and company
1. Pre Marital sex is here!. That's the truth. There is no denying it. I'm not debating whether that's right or wrong. That's another thread. The purists versus the liberals thread.
2. the fact is that Pre marital sex is here. That's the gist of what Kushboo said (not me!) Its NOT just metros or Mumbai or Delhi that the "pre marital sex" is happening. There are also extra marital going on all over India
3. *Tamil Nadu is NO exception*. we are not some island 1000s of mile away from India. We are not backyard of bihar. TN is an in place now. We are very much into the mainstream. There are surveys that show that approx 40% of college students have had sex before marriage !!! Now please don't come back and tell me ONLY MEN had sex, and that too all by themselves...
4. Tamil movies have as much sex portrayed in them as bollywood movies. In fact there is a great competition there in showing more sex
5. What happens in Indian cities gets noticed and has a multiplier effect. It's soon followed by others in smaller towns and villages
6. The dress, the dance, the music... the cinema ... these have always moved from cities to towns to villages
7. So would this "sex" thing move to every place
8. Womens lib is calling this "freedom of expression" and *supporting Kushboo*

9. So to me it looks like Kushboo has a point. *Men who expect their wife to be a virgin are fools*
